RISE UP : BE HEARD

RISE UP: IMAGINE HEALTH & JUSTICE

Because envisioning a better world is the first step to change.

Writer and activist Walida Imarisha once wrote that, “Whenever we try to envision a world without war, without violence, without prisons, without capitalism, we are engaging in speculative fiction. All organizing is science fiction.”

In other words, imagination is a precursor to change, and we have to determine the kind of world we want before we can go out and build it.

So what kind of world do we aspire to?

Fusion’s young Rise Up: Be Heard fellows got together with Civic Paths, a group based at USC, to brainstorm that question. The world they dreamed up in the animation above is both inspiring and a little daunting, given how far we’d have to go to achieve it.

We’ve taken five ideas from this aspirational future and grounded them in the present, using data and the voices of people who are impacted most by the issues.
